• Washdown water outlets are provided under the loadout. Washdown water
drains to a sump pit from which it will be pumped to the top of the
loadout building to drain down the tube and to the settling pond. The
bottom area of the loadout and the top interior of the loadout have
openings for natural ventilation.
There are dust suppression spray headers at the loading chute. The
spray is manually controlled by the operator or automatically
controlled as the gate is opened.
(4) Railroad Spur
The rail system employed at the coal loadout facility is depicted in
Drawing D-2-2. The yard is designed to store a train of sixty loaded
cars, simultaneously receive a train of sixty empty cars, provide a
runaround track for the road locomotives delivering the empty cars,
and allow sufficient trackage beyond the loadout to accommodate the
• loading of ten cars.
The rail yard plan and profile are shown on Drawings D-2-2. A single
track diverges from the mainline onto the site. This track, in turn,
diverges to three parallel tracks. These tracks remain parallel for
approximately 3200 feet through the curve, converging just prior to
the loadout building to a single straight section of track. This
single track section passes through the loadout building, ending at a
bumper S00 feet from the loadout.
The rails are mounted on 8-inch by 11.5-inch double shouldered tie
plates, which in turn are set into creosoted wood ties. The ties are
approximately 9-inch by 7-inch in cross-section and 8 feet in length.
Number 4 and Number 5 ties are used throughout the loop track. The
ties are set in ballast such that 8 inches of ballast lies between the
bottom tie and sub-ballast.

h-33
