The aerial portions of the conveyer are cable supported in a tubular
• gallery of steel plates. The plates are stiffened with circular rings
welded to the outside of the tubes. The support system for the tubu-
lar gallery is constructed of structural steel shapes anchored to
concrete footings. The bent footings are designed for a maximum net
allowable bearing pressure of 8,000 pounds per square foot if the
footing rests in the upper 7 feet of the soil profile and 12,000
pounds per square foot if the footing rests below the upper 7 feet of
the soil profile depth.
The portions of the conveyor located near the finished grade are sup-
ported on modules composed of two framed structural channels and angle
posts anchored on 10-inch diameter concrete footings extending 3 feet,
6 inches below finished grade. A corrugated metal dust hood prevents
the wind from stirring the coal dust in these areas close to the
ground, except at the loading points where covered skirtboards are
used.
• Walkways are on one side of the enclosed sections of the conveyor.
The conveyor at ground level has walkways on one side if the top
strand of the belt line is elevated over 5 feet above grade.
A single-stage coal sampler, a rotating hammer type, is located bet-
ween the conveyor head chute and the conveyor support tube to take the
sample material from the conveyor perpendicular to the direction of
the belt. Belting for the 30-inch conveyor is of steel cord
construction.
Chutes include sufficient bolted panel
required, for access to bolts, and
Suitable stiffened chutes are not less
abrasion-resistant steel liners 1/4-ir
faces subject to wear. Chutes have
degrees and side angle of 60 degrees.
•
areas for entry of liners, as
for servicing belt scrapers.
than 1J4-inch steel plate, and
ich thick are provided on sur-
a minimum valley angle of 55
There are skirtboards at all
4-30
