RIO GRANDE COUNTY ROAD DEPARTMENT
168 N WASHINGTON—MONTE VISTA, CO. 61144
(719) 852-4781 FAX(719)852-0305
RJV
@►©pD & BRIDGE
July 29, 2014
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
RE: Technical Revision for Rio Grande County
To Whom It May Concern;
Rio Grande County has submitted a request for a Technical Revision to allow for the importation of
materials into our gravel pits. Materials would include rock, gravel, top soil, rip-rap,tree limbs, brush
and other related roadside construction materials necessary for the maintenance and construction of
roads, road right of way and reclamation of pit slopes. The County frequently experiences emergency
situations where debris from rain and snow events washes into the roadway. It is cost effective for the
county to haul the material to the closest pit. Also, during construction we encounter unsuitable sub-
base that must be removed for stability purposes, again hauling to the closest location is cost effective.
The materials generated in its original form may not be suitable for sub-base but often other products
can be added producing a usable material for other road applications.
Rio Grande County is committed to maintain safe, clean and compliant pits. With the approval of this
Technical Revision request, this will enable Rio Grande County to utilize our resources effectively by
recycling other materials and ultimately lengthening the life of our pits.
Please contact me if there are any questions.
rRe'ctf ll
Patrick Sullivan
Road Supervisor
Rio Grande County
