August 1, 2014 C- 1981 - 014 /Southfield Mine RDZ
to Map 12. The coordinates recorded by Rob Zuber (in NAD83) are:
105 deg, 9' 51.98" W and 38 deg, 17' 24.32" N.
At the loadout, ponds L -1 and L -2 were dry at the time of their inspection, prior to the heavy rain. No major
problems were found with embankments, flumes, or spillways. Significant riparian vegetation was seen in the
bottom of Pond L2. The Pond L1 primary spillway contains approximately 5 inches of sediment and should be
monitored.
A hole in the Magpie Creek bed was seen south of Substation #2. It is approximately two feet in diameter. The
water in the creek, in response to the heavy rain, was flowing at approximately 200 to 250 gpm upstream of the
hole, and nearly all of this flow was disappearing into the hole in the creek bed. The flow was estimated by
visually estimating the amount of gallons per second entering the hole. Mr. Weaver indicated that there may have
been documentation of this issue in an Annual Hydrology Report (AHR) from many years ago. DRMS is studying
this issue and will research the old AHR. This issue may be related to the subsidence holes noted in the
Subsidence section of this report; the hole in the creek is not more than 300 feet from these other holes.
RECLAMATION SUCCESS - Rule 4.15, Rule 3:
At the loadout, no large bare spots, erosion, or weed patches were seen.
SUBSIDENCE — Rule 4.20:
The area south of Substation #2 where subsidence cracks may need to be repaired was inspected. Three
significant holes were seen, which are all very close to each other (within approximately 200 feet), and other small
holes are nearby. DRMS will prepare a separate report regarding this potential subsidence, including a map
created using GPS data. The holes were flagged with orange tape, and the following details were recorded.
• The southern hole is approximately 12 feet by 14 feet and approximately 7 feet deep.
• The eastern hole is approximately 9 feet by 13 feet and approximately 3 feet deep.
• The western hole is approximately 18 feet by 10 feet and at least 15 feet deep.
OFFSITE SUPPORT FACILIITES - Rule 4.04,4.28:
Trash is still present at the loadout, including a box spring below pond L -2, a pile of concrete rubble, trash
near Pond L2, and trash near the fence by the road. See Hydrology section for discussion of ponds at the loadout.
The rest of the loadout area was inspected, and no erosion weed patches, or other problems were seen.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED
2013 AHR, Revisions for MR -63, MR -64 application
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 2
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 0
Page 3 of 6
