RECLAMATION PLAN EXHIBIT E (cont)
wetlands on the site it will be obtained prior to disturbing
those areas . There will be no earthen dams on the mined area.
The mining and reclamation plans consider existing wildlife use
of the site . This mine is located in a urban setting so few
wildlife species have been observed on the site . During mining
and reclamation a few terrestrial mammals, amphibians and birds
will be displaced. There is adequate habitat on surrounding
properties for the displaced critters to go until reclamation is
complete . Creation and management of wildlife habitat is not a
specific part of the reclamation plan. However, whenever possi-
ble the landowners will work toward the improvement of habitat
for wildlife around the commercial development area . A wildlife
statement was requested from the Colorado Division of Wildlife
Northeast Region, on July 23 , 2014 and as of this date no re-
sponse has been received.
Topsoil in the area is minimal or of poor quality and very little
exists in some areas that can be salvaged. The operator is
committed to salvage whatever growth medium is available for use
in reclamation. When growth medium/topsoil is removed to reach
the mineral deposit, it will be segregated and stockpiled along
the east and south sides of Stage 2 . If the topsoil piles remain
undisturbed for more than a year, 2 . 0 #PLS of Crested Wheatgrass,
per 100 sq-ft will be planted on the piles or other means will be
employed to preserve the topsoil from wind and water erosion.
This will keep it free of contaminants so that it remains useful
for sustaining vegetation when reclamation begins . The stock-
piles will be located in areas where disturbances by ongoing
mining operations will be at a minimum, i . e . along setbacks on
the pit perimeter . The topsoil will be handled as little as
possible until it is replaced onto disturbed areas . Albert Frei
& Sons will take measures necessary to insure the stability of
the replaced topsoil on graded slopes and ensuring that it is
spread as evenly a possible . Fertilizer and other soil amend-
ments will be used, if needed, in accordance with the NRCS
recommendations .
RECLAMATION TIMETABLE
Reclamation will begin once enough area has been opened so that
any reclamation completed will not be disturbed as mining
19
