Graham Roberts was on vacation and Billy Nicholson was in the field;
Forrest Luke was available to escort me throughout the inspection.
Prior to our heading to the field, Steve Hinkemeyer provided an overview of the mine's current
operations using a large, wall- mounted aerial photo.
Skies were clear, and the termperature reached into the 90s. Ground conditions are dry
throughout the mine; Mr. Luke said the area has received very little precipitation since May.
AIR RESOURCE PROTECTION — Rule 4.17:
• Roads were being sprayed by a water truck in order to control fugitive dust emissions.
BACKFILL and GRADING — Rule 4.14
Contemporaneous Reclamation 4.14.1; Approximate Original Contour 4.14.2; Highwall
Elimination 4.14.1(2)(f); Steep Slopes 4.14.2, 4.27; Handling of Acid and Toxic Materials
4.14.3; Stabilization of Rills and Gullies 4.14.6:
• Northeast of Monitoring Station 8, two large bulldozers were pushing material into the pit.
Haul trucks were delivering spoil to a separate area just east of Station 8 (Photo 1).
EXCESS SPOIL and DEVELOPMENT WASTE — Rule 4.09
Placement; Drainage Control; Surface Stabilization:
• The Horse Gulch Fill is nearing completion.
