59
The "excluded areas" will be evaluated using cover criteria only. NECC will use
20% cover as a standard for erosion control. Revegetated cover will consist of a
permanent vegetative cover consistent with the proposed post- mining land use of
rangeland.
Twenty percent (20 %) cover represents a soil loss of 0.33 tons /acre /year. Following
is a summary of the Universal Soil Loss Calculations:
A =soil loss in tons /acre /year
R =75
K =0.28 (Table Mountain Loam)
LS =0.31 (400 foot slope at 2 %)
C =.2 (grass cover at 20 %)
P =.25 (contour stripping)
A= (75)(.28)(31)(2)(.25)
A =33 tons /acre /year
The "T value" for Table Mountain Loams is 5 tons /acre /year. Therefore, a
20% vegetative cover producing .33 tons /acre /year would be an acceptable
management level. Active areas will be evaluated using the following criteria:
Cover
Herbaceous cover shall be greater than or equal to 90% of the reference area
cover (or other approved cover standards Comparisons will be made with
results valid at the 90% confidence level, using a one -sided test with a 0.10
alpha error probability.
Prnrinntinn
Herbaceous productionshall be greater than or equal to 90% of the reference area
production. Comparisons will be made with the results valid at the 90%
confidence level, using a one -sided test with 0.10 alpha error probability.
Diversity
Species diversity will be deemed adequate when the reclaimed lands consist of
a minimum of 2 cool season grasses, 2 warm season grasses and one forb. These
species shall compromise at least 5% and no more than 60% relative cover and
shall consist of perennial, non- noxious species.
Woody Plant Density
Woody plant density will be determined by conducting a total census within each
shrub clump. Success will be confirmed when the count of live shrubs, after all
Section 2.05 TR -68 3/21/2014
