Forest Medicine Bow—Routt National Forests Halms Peak/Bears Ears District
Service and Thunder Basin National Grassland 925 Weiss Drive
Steamboat Springs,CO 80487-9315
File Code: 1950-1 Date: May 21, 2010
Route To:
Subject: Decision Notice for the Little Snake North Timber Sale and Fuel Reduction
Project
To: Robert Bringuel
This memo is necessary to clarify the wording in the Decision Notice for the Little Snake North
Timber Sale and Fuel Reduction Project. The clarification is pertinent to the analysis in that the
Decision Notice (signed December 16, 2009) stated the proposed action would include the
utilization of an existing pit and that a "native pit run"operation would be employed. The
definition of"native pit run" is typically defined as "ungraded gravel as it is taken directly from
the gravel pit." Therefore, the assumption should have been that the gravel would not be
crushed. However, in the case of the Little Snake North Timber Sale and Fuel Reduction
Project, there will be a crushing operation to resurface the roads in the area. So the discrepancy
lies in whether or not we (the Forest Service) analyzed for a crushing operation versus a"native
pit run" operation.
After confirming with Forest Service specialists who took part in this project that their analyses
did in fact analyze for a gravel crushing operation, or that a crushing operation would not lead to
any negative effects, it was decided that no additional impacts would occur. Therefore, the intent
of the decision is valid and that no change in actions would be necessary in this decision and that
a crushing operation will be approved.
cJAMIE INGSBURY
ri anger
cc: Jamie Kingsbury, Robert Bringuel
USDA
It's Cool to Be Safe Printed on Recycled Paper
