If possible, a prison crew
could be utilized to help remove debris and some noxious weeds.
Below is a list of the recommended grass blend. The City of Lamar has
a current grass blend in place. This grass blend will be sufficient
provided the smooth brome variety be removed as it is not a
beneficial grass.
• Trees:It is recommended use of trees for shade and landscape. Native
species such as cottonwood are relatively easy to start. However, use
of other types of trees can be utilized. Cedar for wind breaks and
shade. Locust trees are a good drought tolerant tree. Since water is
close,Oak or Maples could be used. Elms, locust as well as
cottonwoods for the north side of the river would be a good choice.
• Roads and Access:Roads and trails for public access will be addressed
to allow public access for Ponds 1, 3,&4. Roads will be constructed
around North Gateway Park to allow for public access around
various parts of the Park to its various parking lots and related
structures and walkways. The road to pond 4 will be a seasonal access
road with gates, locks and signs to limit public access during
waterfowl season. Trails are to be constructed as to allow for
handicapped use at certain locations around the ponds,as well as the
park in general. Trails that are made can be incorporated as to serve
the general public and people with disabilities.
• Structures:It is proposed that structures be erected and built for
public use in various locations around North Gateway Park. Maps
will be utilized to communicate recommended locations for the
various structures that will be used by the Patrons of North Gateway
Park.
