INTRODUCTION
In response to a recent Temporary Cessation Inspection of the Florence South Pit by the Division of
Reclamation, Mining & Safety, the Division requested the submittal of a Weed Control and Management
Plan as a Technical Revision to the mining and reclamation permit. This document has been prepared in
response to that request and the operator is proceeding with the Weed Control and Management Plan
efforts accordingly.
The Florence South Pit status is summarized as follows:
A herbicide mix of %% arsenal and %Z% glyphosate along with a commercial surfactant will be used, we
will also add Hi -Light Blue Dye to mark plants that have been sprayed. This method is also known as
high - volume foliar spraying.
Fremont Paving & Redi -Mix, Inc. will apply this herbicide mix July through September, or until leaves
begin to turn yellow.
Approximately eleven (11) acres have been disturbed to date.
Fremont Paving & Redi -Mix, Inc. will use this new weed spray treatment mix for the next few years.
Otherwise the site is mostly grass and annual weeds. During the May 20, 2014 inspection DRMS noted
Tamarisk (Salt Cedar) trees are becoming established in the permit area. The Division noted the
problem (Rule 3.110(6)) and directed the submittal and implementation of a Weed control and
Management Plan.
This Weed control and Management Plan has been developed to address the noxious weed control
issues noted by the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety.
METHODOLOGY
Areas infested with the identified noxious weed within the permit boundary will be addressed by
ignition assessment and spraying. Fremont Paving & Redi -Mix, Inc. proposes to inform DRMS of weed
control activities on an annual basis as part of the permit Annual Report function and requirements.
Fremont Paving & Redi -Mix, Inc. envisions this as an annual ongoing process during each summer to
control noxious weeds before they propagate during the season. Specific management techniques will
be developed, implemented and documented using a practical mix of cultural, mechanical, biological
and chemical controls as deemed both effective and cost effective.
In general the Tamarisk (Salt Cedar) will probably be controlled using herbicides July through
September. If standard measures are not successful in eliminating the weed control problem within a
reasonable amount of time Fremont Paving & Redi -Mix, Inc. may contact DRMS for additional
assistance.
