The data were selected from larger data sets in this area for years 2006,
2007, 2009, 2011 and 2012. Data from the native sagebrush reference area at Seneca IIW collected over the same period
was selected for comparison. The native sagebrush type and the reclaimed areas are most similar in terms of composition
and cover characteristics. The vegetation, ground and annual cover values are based on first hit cover for all growth
forms. The comparison is based on a hydrologic cover scenario. As can be seen in the graphs, the reclaimed area has
developed good vegetative cover and biomass production resulting in high levels of relatively stable ground cover similar
to the sagebrush type. Further, the relatively low and constant level of annuals in the reclaimed area also indicates
established and effective watershed conditions. The drop in vegetation cover in 2012 is greater in the reclaimed area
because it is more dominated by well- established herbaceous species and can be more affected by annual precipitation
fluctuations than the sagebrush type. However, it produces good biomass levels that maintain high litter values and thus
maintain consistent ground cover.
90
30
70
60
50
40
30
20
10
0
Seneca IIIIV Reclaimed Cover Data (Pond 006 va ershed)
2006 2007 2009
Yea r
2011 Dui
--*—Vegcover
--W-Ground cover
Annualcover
