Blue Pit 112 Permit Amendment
mining face to the crushing /screening plant. The crushing /screening plant will produce stockpiles
of different sized Aggregates, Inc. Some of the material will be hauled to the wash plant to make
different products for sale as well as feedstock for the concrete plant.
The gravel deposit will be mined at a slope of i.5H:iV (67% slope), except for the upper portion of
the south slope in the amendment area of 2014, which will be mined at 3H:1V to allow for rapid re-
vegetation to reduce the visual impacts to the Wooden Deer community which is located north of
the permit area. This mining slope will recover the maximum amount of gravel as well as keeping
a safe slope. Since the mining depth is 90 feet in some places and 125 feet in other places, benches
below the existing ground level will be created during mining to promote safe recovery of the
material.
The mine plan utilized three areas: Mining Area 1 is the bulk of the existing permit, prior to the
2014 Amendment. Area 2 is the expansion area and Area 3 is a small portion of the pre- existing
permit area that may be mined at a later date due to visual impacts.
Table 1: Current & Expansion Areas
Area Gravel Years to Mine
(Acres) (millions of tons) (estimated 450,000 tons per year)
146.87
It is important to note that the areas listed above are actual areas to be mined. The total permit
area is larger than the total mining area (146.87 acres vs. 134.68 acres). The total expected gravel to
be produced is 9,o82,266 cubic yards or 13,623399 tons over 30 years.
The material volumes described in Table 1 are approximate but are based on the current operation
and exploration drilling conducted in the area. The "Years to Mine" column is based on an average
annual production of 450,000 tons per year. This has been the average from 2000 to 20o6 but from
2oo6 -2011, sales were significantly lower due to the recession. Sales will always be dependent on
demand. Area 1 volume remaining is based on the area mined out as of 2010 (from map C -1 vs Map
C -213. Additional volume has been mined since that time.
Blue Pit May 2014 D -2
Current Area
64.57
3.28
7
(partially disturbed)
65.91
10.04
22
Expansion Area
Current Area
4.20
0.30
1
(partially disturbed)
134.68
13.6
30
It is important to note that the areas listed above are actual areas to be mined.
