January 29, 2014 C- 1981 - 014 /Southfield Mine RDZ <br />The portion of Newlin Creek where a landowner has indicated that there is a losing reach due to subsidence was <br />inspected for cracks or other indications of mining impacts. No cracks were seen in the area flagged by the <br />landowner. There was not enough runoff from recent snow storms for the inspector to look for losses in the creek <br />based on soil moisture observations. <br />The cap at Well MW -NW was removed, and the tag ( 91205400) and notice from the Division of Water Resources <br />were still in place. <br />PROCESSING WASTE /COAL MINE WASTE PILES — Rule 4.10 and 4.11 <br />Drainage Control; Surface Stabilization; Placement: <br />The perimeter of the RDA was driven; no rills or other problems were seen. <br />ROADS — Rule 4.03 <br />Construction 4.03.1(3)/4.03.2(3) <br />Drainage 4.03.1(4)/4.03.2(4) <br />Surfacing and Maintenance4.03.1(5) and (6)/4.03.2(5) and (6) <br />Reclamation 4.03.1(7)/4.03.2(7): <br />Roads to the facilities area and the RDA were in good shape. <br />RECLAMATION SUCCESS - Rule 4.15, Rule 3: <br />The portal area, including the area around the truck tunnel, was in good shape; no erosion or large weed <br />patches were observed. <br />The rock dust storage SAE was inspected and no problems were seen. <br />SUBSIDENCE — Rule 4.20: <br />The area near Newlin Creek where subsidence cracks were repaired (upstream of the Thompson driveway) <br />was inspected. No new cracks were seen. <br />See discussion of flagged portion of Newlin Creek in hydrology section. <br />SUPPORT FACILITIES - Rule 4.04: <br />Power Substation 92 was inspected. No erosion on or near the pad was seen. In a previous inspection, it <br />was noted that a portion of the barbed wire on the fence (approximately 10 feet at southwest corner) has been <br />taken off the fence. One of the wires has been tied up; the other two ends are on the ground. There is no sign <br />that the wires were cut.
