Limited - Results Archaeological Survey Form (Page 4 of 10)
21. Ground Visibility: Surface visibility was satisfactory throughout the project area (ranging from 60-
85%). Vegetation cover was moderate throughout the area overall, but short dense grasses and
some areas of thick sagebrush limited ground visibility.
22. Comments: Special attention was paid to areas of exposed soils and subsurface contents in
cut banks and eroded areas.
V. LITERATURE REVIEW
23. Location of File Search: Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (OAHP)- Compass
online database
Dates: 6/02/2014
24. Previous Survey Activity - In the project area: Proposed corehole WCO26 was not newl
surveyed for this project because it was completely covered by a previous block inventory (see
project map, OAHP# RT.LM.R59): conducted by Powers Elevation in 1976 for a proposed mine
expansion. In addition, a linear survey (RT.LM.R20) intersects with the proposed corehole block,
and another (RT.LM.NR67) intersects with a small portion of the access road to WCO26.
In the general region: Forty -four previous cultural resource inventories have been conducted within a
mile of the project area (Table 1). The majority of these projects have been conducted for
Twentymile Peabody Coal mining activities, with a fewer amount of transmission line, land
exchange, and Railroad projects.
25. Known Cultural Resources - In the project area: No previously recorded archaeological sites
are located within the immediate project area or area of potential affect (APE) (proposed core
hole pads or road corridors). There are numerous isolated finds of artifacts nearby; all of which
have been recommended not eligible to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). These
isolated finds are located outside of planned construction areas.
