Of the
328 originally planted shrubs in spring 2013, only 206 shrubs remained (63 percent shrub
success). The surviving shrubs were establishing in the 0.59 acre restored upland area and
0.09 acre restored upland/riparian area on the north side of the Creek. Any trees or shrubs that
were planted along the Creek itself were completely missing.
Of the originally 22 planted trees, only 7 remaining trees were counted (32 percent tree
rsuccess). The trees were located either in uplands outside of the riparian corridor, or were
' planted away from where the main flooding occurred. None of the trees or willow stakes
planted along the Creek survived. Much of the riparian vegetation that had existed along the
rCreek before the flood was destroyed. There was zero percent success of the planted willow
stakes (see Appendix A— Photos 1 through 22).
Overall planted tree and shrub success after the Flood event totals 61 percent with zero percent
willow stake survival. Overall planted tree, shrub and willow stake success therefore totals 43
percent (see Table 3) as opposed to the approximately 90 percent success of planted material
before the Flood.
Seeded Areas
' All restored mitigation areas were seeded in the summer and fall of 2012 at Schwartzwalder
Mine. Grass establishment was greater than 50 percent cover over 100 percent of the seeded
' areas during the summer of 2013 as evidenced in Photos 3 through 13 (see Appendix A and
Schwartzwalder Mine Phase 1 -2013 Mitigation Monitoring Report Page 7
May 31,2014
r
