Following the Flood, greater than 80 percent of these seeded areas were destroyed
by scouring from flooding, deposition of cobble, rocks, sand, and soil, and by landslides from
steep higher slopes collapsing (see Appendix A— Photos 1 through 22). The 0.07 acre riparian
seeded areas were either scoured due to creek erosional flow or were covered with sediment
and/or cobble (see Appendix A— Photos 3 through 14). The 0.09 acre riparian area was mainly
lost due to scouring from heavy Creek flows. A portion of the 0.09 acre upland seeded area
' was covered by a landslide from steep slopes located above the site (see Appendix A— Photos
15 and 16). Of the 0.25 acre seeded mitigation areas, approximately 0.04 acre of seeded area
remains which means that 85 percent of the seeded areas were destroyed by the flood event
(see Table 4).
Ten 3-Meter Square Plots
IRIS has been monitoring tree and shrub health along the Creek within ten 3-meter square plots
as part of the 2011 BA requirements. IRIS has been collecting monthly data downstream of the
cutoff wall since July 2012 (see Table 5). Data are collected because of the diversion of the
Creek through the 18-inch pipe adjacent to the Creek creek bed, and its effect on overall
riparian vegetation health. An irrigation system was installed in 2012 to irrigate this stretch of
creek. The irrigation system can only operate when there is water flowing in the Creek, which
usually runs dry in May or June such that there is no surface flow for a period of several months.
' This irrigation system was completely destroyed by the Flood.
' Schwartmalder Mine Phase 1 -2013 Mitigation Monitoring Report Page 8
May 31,2014
