' IRIS MITIGATION AND DESIGN,INC.
IRIS 2022 Arapahoe Street
MITIGATION AND DESIGN,INC. Golden,Colorado 80401
Environmental Consulting Phone: 720-272-1985
bleisure@irismitigation.com
2013 at which point fall rainy weather began negating the need for further supplemental
watering.
Remainder of Phase 1 Mitigation
' The remaining Phase 1 impacted trees, shrubs and mitigation activities as detailed on Tables 1
and 2 will be completed following the Phase 2 valley floor clean-up activities. The Phase 2
' mitigation includes 0.3 acre of upland area restoration, 0.35 acre of riparian area creation and
restoration, and the planting of 174 riparian trees and 615 willow stakes (see Tables 1 and 2).
The reason for postponing the completion of all Phase I mitigation is that much of the area along
the Creek downstream of the cutoff wall will likely be impacted during Phase 2 valley floor clean-
up activities. Since it is unknown exactly where this impact will occur, it is prudent to delay the
planting of the remaining trees and shrubs until the valley floor and associated Creek restoration
work has been completed.
2013 Pre-Flood Mitigation Monitoring Success
On August 21, 2013, IRIS collected data on establishing trees and shrubs in the Phase 1
' mitigation areas (see Table 3). Of the 500 planted trees, shrubs, and willow stakes, there were
22 trees (both riparian and upland), 328 shrubs (both riparian and upland), and 150 willow (Salix
' exigua) stakes planted. In August 2013, IRIS found that 17 of the 22 planted trees had
established (77 percent tree success), 294 of the 328 shrubs had established (90 percent shrub
success), and 128 of the 150 willow stakes had established. In addition, IRIS counted an
additional 10 volunteer willow plants for a total of 92 percent willow stake success (see Table 3).
' Schwartzwalder Mine Phase 1 -2013 Mitigation Monitoring Report Page 4
May 31,2014
