IRIS MITIGATION AND DESIGN,INC.
IRIS 2022 Arapahoe Street
MITIGATION AND DESIGN,INC. The Creek flowed at least halfway through the
Site for several days and replenished the trees and shrubs in the upper reaches of the creek.
After the Flood, IRIS visited the site on October 3, 2013, and collected data at each of the ten
plots (see Tables 5 and 6). Four of the ten plots had no vegetation left at all (see Appendix A—
Photo 19). Extreme erosion and depositional activity had scoured out the area and deposited
' rock and cobble in place of where vegetation had been. Four of the plots had 5 percent to 50
percent vegetation loss (see Table 6) and only two plots had zero percent vegetation loss. The
' average vegetation loss due to the Flood along the Creek, according to the plot data, totals 52
percent loss (see Table 6). This corresponds to the loss of planted trees, shrubs and willow
' stakes along the Creek in mitigation areas (47 percent loss), and to the loss of seeded areas in
the mitigation areas (85 percent loss).
' Weed Control
Weed control was completed by Weed Wranglers, Inc. at all Phase 1 mitigation areas and along
the installed 18-inch pipeline corridor during the growing seasons of 2012 and 2013. Noxious
and nuisance weeds were sprayed with an appropriate herbicide by backpack to focus the
treatments where needed. Weed control will continue into 2014 as the disturbed and seeded
areas further establish.
' Schwartmalder Mine Phase 1 -2013 Mitigation Monitoring Report Page 10
May 31,2014
