May 22, 2014 C- 1982 - 056 /Foidel Creek Mine JDM
RDA-4
The underdrain of the RDA Expansion and a portion of the runoff of the RDA area reports to the Area 1 Pit, which
is a remnant of the Eckman Mine Complex surface mine pit. The Area 1 Pit is a totally incised excavation
enclosed by natural ground and backfilled surface mine spoils. In addition to receiving a minimal portion of the
water from the RDA, the Area 1 Pit is used for temporary storage of excess mine water as part of the mine water
recycle and dewatering system. The Area 1 Pit was stable at the time of the inspection and no problems were
noted, with the exception of the following:
- Non -coal waste in the form of wooden blocks was observed throughout the edges of the Area 1 Pit. All non -
coal waste should be disposed of appropriately to ensure function of the Area 1 Pit discharge to Sedimentation
Pond D.
- Two unidentified —4" diameter pipes were observed from the Area 1 Pit, under the access road, and to the Pond
D embankment were observed. These pipes were not functioning at the time of the inspection with one housing
electrical cable stockpiled on the Pond D embankment and the other empty. If these pipes are required,
identification on appropriate maps is needed. If not required all non -coal waste will need to be disposed of.
1
Stockpiled Refuse with Area 1 Pit and Pond D Area 1 Pit
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 10
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 3
Page 3 of 7
