Peabody Sage Creek Mining, LLC
Page 4
0514/2014
for Surface Water
31.1.11
times at four sites all four sites are springs.
Based on CWQCC reg. 31, the standard of 0.2
mg /l, applies to plants grown in acidic soils
( <6.0 pH). In alkaline soils, as found on the
PSCM site, the EPA standard would be 10 mg /l.
The maximum manganese value observed at
any surface site was 7.14 mg /l at SSSPG10A.
9. Instream
CWQCC regulation
Two PSCM monitoring sites exist within the
Numeric Standards
33.0
Fish Creek Drainage: The 004 outfall and SSC10
are on Cow Camp Creek and discharge into
Fish Creek which is on Segment 13b of the
Yampa River basin. The stream standards for
Fish Creek are based on aquatic life standards.
Two samples from the Pond 004 outfall
exceeded the chronic selenium standard of 4.6
ug /l, in April and May (4.9 and 6.4 ug /l). The
acute standard of 18.4 ug /l was not exceeded.
Two PSCM monitoring sites exist within the
Little Grassy Creek drainage: The 002 outfall
and SSLG5. SSLG5 drains the upper portion of
Little Grassy Creek which are undisturbed by
mining. Both sites discharge into Grassy Creek
which is on Segment 13e of the Yampa River
basin. The stream standard for Total
Recoverable Iron (1.0 mg /l) was exceeded at
the SSLG5 site (3.77 mg /l) and the Total
Mercury standard (0.0100 mg /l) was exceeded
at SSLG5 ( <0.200 mg /l). This site is upstream
of any mine discharges.
Six monitoring sites exist within the Grassy
Creek drainage: YSGF5, SSG1, 003 outfall,
SSG2, SSG3, and YSG5. Sites SSG1, SSG2, YSG5
and YSGF5 exceeded the total recoverable iron
standard (1.0 mg /l) however, no exceedances
were noted at NPDES outfall 003. Site SSG2
