That the meadow and surrounding area is of relatively high habitat quality and is
important year -round habitat for various ungulate species including elk, mule deer and
pronghorn
Petkash spoke with Steel Rose I, Inc. Vice President Scott West via telephone during the site
visit. Mr. West advised Petkash that the expansion would be used for sorting and working the
removed soil prior to its transportation off -site and not for additional excavation. Mr. West also
stated that the expansion would occur to the southwest of the existing claim and that there was
no plan to expand into the conifer and aspen stand northwest of the existing pit.
Due to the observed use of the conifer and aspen stand directly northwest of the mine by various
species of wildlife, CPW recommends that no further encroachment occur into this copse of
trees. The reestablishment of the natural topography of the site and subsequent revegetation with
a weed -free, native montane grassland species will be crucial to avoiding long -term negative
impacts to wildlife in the area. Disturbed sites give invasive species a chance to establish
themselves with less competition from natives that are less efficient at adapting to disturbed
areas. Therefore, CPW recommends that great care be taken to avoid the unintentional
introduction of invasive /noxious weeds into the site.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact District Wildlife Manager Ian Petkash at
719- 748 -0129.
Sincerely,
4*6X__
Reid DeWalt
Area Wildlife Manager
Cc: S.
