Inc., Steel Rose 1, File No. M- 2006 -031 <br />Dear Mr. Cunningham, <br />Thank you for the opportunity to com rent on the proposed expansion of the Steel Rose I mine. <br />The approximately 3.39 -acre site is located in the Pike National Forest, approximately ten miles <br />west of the town of Lake George at or near Township 11 S, Range 73 W, Section 21, SE 1 A <br />Section. <br />The mission of Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) is to perpetuate the wildlife resources of the <br />state, to provide a quality state parks system, and to provide enjoyable and sustainable outdoor <br />recreation opportunities that educate and inspire current and future generations to serve as active <br />stewards of Colorado's natural resources. One of the ways we achieve our mission is to comment <br />on land use proposals such as the request we received from your agency. Our goal is to provide <br />complete, consistent and timely information to all entities who request comment on matters <br />within our statutory authority and our mission. <br />Ian Petkash, District Wildlife Manager, visited the site of the proposed expansion on Saturday, <br />April 5`h, 2014. During his site visit, Petkash observed the following: <br />• That the mine and proposed claim expansion exists within an approximately 110 -acre <br />meadow surrounded by aspen and conifer stands <br />• That the surrounding meadow contained a healthy gallery of montane grasses and forbs <br />and did not appear to be invaded by invasive or undesirable species <br />• One red - tailed hawk using a ponderosa pine in the conifer stand directly northwest of the <br />pit as a hunting perch <br />• Eight mule deer, two pronghorn, one coyote and numerous passerine species within the <br />meadow surrounding the mining claim <br />• Elk tracks and feces in the conifer stand directly northwest of the pit <br />Nouvj �.
