Apri124, 2014 C- 1981 - 035 /King Coal Mine MLT
• Clumps of "Cheat' grass were observed near the water pump at King 11. This weed can be
easily pulled by hand before it goes to seed.
ROADS — Rule 4.03
Construction 4.03.1(3) / 4.03.2(3); Drainage 4.03.1(4) / 4.03.2(4); Surfacing and Maintenance
4.03.1(5) and (6) / 4.03.2(5) and (6); Reclamation 4.03.1(7) / 4.03.2(7):
• The roads at King II were in good condition, with no problems noted (Photo 3).
• Regrading of some of the roads may take place this year, in order to improve the surface
runoff at the King II facilities.
SUPPORT FACILITIES - Rule 4.04:
• Coal stockpiles at Stack Tubes No. 1 and No. 2 were smaller than what was seen during the
March 24, 2014 inspection (Photos 4 and 5).
• At the new office building / bath house, the second story offices have been completed and are
now occupied by GCC personnel.
• The roadway between the three -sided storage building and the new office / bath house is
paved with concrete (Photo 6)
• Areas previously occupied by stored materials have been converted to employee parking
(Photo 7), and all of the temporary office trailers have been removed from King II.
• The petroleum storage shed at King 11 was clean and orderly (Photo 8).
• The King I facilities, as seen from County Road 120, were dry, with no visible activity
occurring (Photo 9).
TOPSOIL, — Rule 4.06
Removal 4.06.2; Substitute Materials 4.06.4(4); Storage and Protection 4.06.3; Redistribution
4.06.4:
• At King 11, the sediment pond topsoil stockpile was well- vegetated and stable - no evidence
of erosion or loss of the resource was observed.
• However, the seeded species of grass are being overrun by Kochia (Photo 10). Introducing
seeds from this weed into the topsoil stockpile could make successful revegetation more
difficult to achieve when the pond is reclaimed and the topsoil stockpile is redistributed
across the area. Control of this weed is recommended.
ENFORCEMENT ACTIONS /COMPLIANCE
No enforcement actions were initiated as a result of this inspection, nor are any pending.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 7
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 3 Page 3 of 8
