Graham Roberts, TMI
Page 2
April 24, 2014
permit which lists the permit and licenses required for coal mining and reclamation
operations for Trapper Mining, Inc.
2. The iron (Fe) levels reported for alluvial monitoring well P -1 have varied throughout
the years, however in September of 2011 and September of 2013 the levels were
reported to be 1.33 and .72 mg /1 respectively. These levels are higher than the
Colorado Department of Health and Environment Water Quality Control Commission,
Regulation No. 41, The Basic Standards for Ground Water, Table II standard for Iron
which is .3 mg /1. Previous monitoring data for this well show iron levels to be below
this standard except for one event in September of 1999 when a level of 1.24 mg /1 was
reported. This impact is not addressed in the 2013 Annual Hydrology Report narrative;
please explain the spike in iron levels of this well in 2011 and 2013.
Well P -3 has been reported to be dry since the last measurements were taken in June of
2005. Prior to this, the water elevation's almost mirrored the elevations measured at
well P -1 until the well was reported to be dry. This is logical given the construction of
this well and its proximity to P -1. It is unclear why this well went dry so suddenly.
There may be a problem with this well, perhaps a blockage of some kind. Please
evaluate the condition or provide an explanation for why the well went dry.
This concludes the Division's preliminary review of TR113. The decision date for this revision is
May 26, 2014. If you need additional time to address these issues please request an extension of
the decision date.
Sincerelv,
av&-
Jared Ebert
Environmental Protection Specialist
Jared.Ebert" state.co.us
Enclosures:
1.)
