Total average vegetation cover for first hits was 77.1 percent. Allowable all -hit herbaceous <br />vegetation cover was 53.7 percent (Table B -1). Cover by standing dead, litter, bare soil and rock <br />averaged 1.5, 18.3, 3.0 and 0.0 percent, respectively (first hit). Average species density was 35.1 <br />species per 100 sq. m. <br />Production <br />(Table A -6) <br />Total herbaceous production in 2012 was 662.0 pounds per acre. Of this, 372.9 pounds were <br />native perennial forbs; 221.3 were native perennial cool season grasses and 55.3 were <br />introduced perennial cool season grasses. Three other lifeforms were present at less than 11 <br />pounds per acre. <br />MOUNTAIN BRUSH EXTENDED REFERENCE AREA (2012 <br />(Photographs 24 -27) <br />Cover <br />(Table A -7) <br />Native shrubs were the predominant lifeform observed in the Mountain Brush Reference Area, <br />contributing 64.8 percent all -hit vegetation cover. Of this, Gambel's oak (Quercus gambelil) <br />contributed 37.6 percent, mountain snowberry and Saskatoon serviceberry each contributed 11.9 <br />percent. Native perennial cool season grasses and native perennial forbs and made strong <br />contributions to all -hit cover, with 17.3 and 9.5 percent, respectively. <br />The noxious weed species, Hound's tongue (Cynoglossum officinale) measured 2.3 percent <br />cover. Other noxious weed species that were present but not in measured amounts include bull <br />thistle (Cirsium vulgare) and Canada Thistle (Cirsium arvensis). <br />Total average vegetation cover for first hits was 68.7 percent. Allowable all -hit herbaceous <br />vegetation cover was 28.9 percent (Table B -1). Cover by standing dead, litter, bare soil and rock <br />averaged 2.1, 23.3, 5.6 and 0.3 percent, respectively (first hit). Average species density was 28.7 <br />species per 100 sq. m. <br />Production <br />(Table A -8) <br />Total herbaceous production in 2012 was 417.5 pounds per acre. Of this, 292.6 pounds were <br />native perennial cool season grasses and 121.3 were native perennial forbs. Four other lifeforms <br />were present at less than 2 pounds per acre. <br />E <br />
