In the production tables, data are expressed as oven -dry pounds per acre (lbs /acre). These
figures were extrapolated from the average weights for the 0.5 square meter samples. For woody
plant density, data collected in each 100 square meter plot were extrapolated to estimate the
number of individuals expected per acre.
Interim Monitoring
2006 RECLAIMED AREA
(Photographs 1 -18)
Cover
(Table A -1)
Introduced perennial fortis were the predominant lifeform observed in the 2006 Reclaimed Area,
contributing 20.9 percent all -hit cover with alfalfa (Medicago sativa) comprising the majority with
19.7 percent all -hit cover. Native perennial cool season grasses were the second most
encountered lifeform with 9.6 percent all -hit cover. Within this group, Agassiz bluegrass (Poa
pratensis ssp. agassizensis) and thickspike wheatgrass (Elymus lanceolatus ssp. lanceolatus)
were most common, having 3.1 and 1.5 percent all -hit cover, respectively. Native perennial fortis
(4.7 percent all -hit cover) were the third most common lifeform having numerous species with low
percent cover values and no dominant species. Also observed in the area were the noxious
weeds hound's tongue (Cynoglossum officinale, 0.44 % cover)), Canada thistle (Cirsium arvense,
0.17% cover), and bull thistle (Cirsium vulgare, no measurable cover).
Total average vegetation cover for all -hits was 48.1 percent. Allowable all -hit herbaceous cover
was 43.0 percent. Cover by standing dead, litter, bare soil and rock averaged 1.1, 29.7, 21.1, and
1.9 percent, respectively (first hits). Average species density was 27.7 species per 100 sq. m.
Production
(Table A -2)
Total herbaceous production in 2013 was 2179 pounds per acre, of which 2014 pounds per acre
was allowable herbaceous production. Of the total production, 1126 pounds were introduced
perennial forbs, 496.1 were native perennial cool season grasses, and 264.1 were introduced
annual and biennial forbs. Four other lifeforms were present, each less than 200 pounds per
acre.
7
