WOODY PLANT DENSITY:
For purposes of comparisons in this document, general (background) woody plant density at the
Yoast Mine is evaluated using a technical standard of 200 shrubs per acre. Woody plant
concentration areas that are included in eventual bond release blocks are judged by a standard of
2000 stems per acre.
Climatic Data
Precipitation data was obtained from the NOAA administered Western Regional climate Center
(WRCC) for the nearby town of Hayden (Station 053867). For years 1990 through 2008,
precipitation data were collected at the Seneca IIW Mine. For years 1982 through 1989, SCC
provided precipitation data from the nearby Seneca II Mine. Since the data record for Seneca IIW
exists for only a relatively short period, the long term average monthly precipitation data from the
Western Regional Climate Center (WRCC) for the nearby town of Hayden was used as an
appropriate base for comparison. Information on degree -days was also based on temperature
data from the Hayden station.
RESULTS
Sample data from the 2013 interim revegetation monitoring studies are presented in Tables A -1
through A -12. Woody Plant Density data for Shrub Concentration Area are presented in Table A-
4. Sampling data are summarized in Tables B -1 through B -4.. Data on cover, production, and
woody plant density are in Table B -1. Data on species density by lifeform are tabulated for
sampled areas in Table B -2. Data on relative cover by lifeform are compiled in Table B -3.
Statistical adequacy of sampling is reviewed in Table B -4. Graphs of vegetation and climate data
are presented in Figures B -1 through B -10. The list of plant species observed during these
studies is included in Table C- 1.Seed mixes used in the reclamation areas are included for
reference in Appendix D. Photographs of representative locations within the reclaimed and
reference areas sampled in 2013 and 2012 are included in Appendix E.
In the cover descriptions below, species listed as "also present" were not "hit" during point -
intercept sampling but were present within one meter of either side of the 50 m sample transect
line. Unless otherwise stated, all cover values are for absolute all -hit data only. Percentages are
rounded to facilitate discussion of the results.
X
