3. Topsoil, Seeding and Mulching
There is no topsoil available on site for the reclamation of the permit area. We intend to use
imported nutrients to substitute for the topsoil that was removed by others during the original
mining operation more than 20 years ago.
The contractor shall prepare the site for revegetation by disking the top surface of the fill
material then adding soil amendments and composted material to prepare the soil for native
seeding. The added nutrients together with fertilizer will help to achieve successful
establishment of the native seed. The seeded area will then be protected by weed free hay
mulch crimped into the soil with tackifier added to help maintain the moisture needed for
germination.
The Authority's proposed native seed mix is as follows:
Description:
Scientific Name:
Rate PLS# /Acre:
% OF TOTAL
Fults Alkali Grass
Puccinellia Distans
14.82
46.69%
Alkali Sacaton
Sorobolus Airoides
12.61
39.73%
Prairie Cord grass
S artina Pectinata
1.70
5.37%
Alkar Tall Wheat grass
Thinopyrurn Ponitcum
0.55
1.71%
Nuttall Alkali grass
Puccinellia Alkali grass
0.30
0.94%
Inland Salt Grass
Distichlis Sicata
0.30
0.93%
Other
1.47
4.63%
TOTAL:
31.75 PLS# /Acre
100%
The seeded area will be monitored by Authority staff until the seed is established. Maintenance
thereafter will be at the discretion of the Authority with the goal being to maintain vegetation and
minimize nuisance weeds.
The monitoring and evaluation process will be maintained until reclamation goals are achieved.
The reclamation plan and process will be revised as needed to ensure the goals are achieved.
