Whenever possible, preprinted labels should be used to ensure that necessary information is retained with the sample. Shipping manifests shall be utilized to maintain control over access to the destination of samples after shipment from the sample collection site. 1.3.1 SAMPLE LABEL Each sample shall be labeled, and the following information recorded on the label: • Sample identification (well number for groundwater samples; soil sample number, and sample depth for soil samples, etc.); • Laboratory analyses; • Sample type (grab or composite, media sampled); • Date and time sample was taken; • Preservative added; and • Remarks, including pertinent field observations. 1.3.2 FIELD SAMPLE DATA SHEET The field sample data sheet is completed in the field and signed by the individual physically in charge of sample collection.
