REVEGETATION
• Seeding and Shrub Planting
No new seeding was conducted at Seneca II. No shrubs or trees were planted at Seneca II Mine
in 2013.
• Weed Control
Survey for noxious weeds was carried out on the Seneca II Mine permit area in 2013. Weed
control applications for whitetop and Canada thistle were conducted at the Seneca II Mine in
2013. The weed control areas will continue to be monitored in 2014 for effectiveness and
necessary retreatment. See Weed Control log.
• Revegetation Monitoring
Revegetation monitoring of permanently revegetated areas was conducted during the summer of
2013 by ESCO Associates, Inc. The 2013 Annual Revegetation Monitoring report will be
submitted as a separate document.
• Grazing
Cattle (160 long yearlings) were moved on to the Seneca II reclaimed area August 15th' 2012. All
cattle were moved off the Seneca II Mine area September 11th, 2012.
This grazing scheme resulted in a total of 128 AUM's for 2012.
Assumptions: 1 long yearling = 0.8 A UM, requiring 648 pounds of forage per month. (One
A UM requires 810 pounds of forage).
The AUM usage is calculated using the following assumptions:
Assumptions:
Average production = 1,172 lbs. /acre (see 2007 and 2008 Revegetation Monitoring Report)
Total reclaimed area = 271 acres (included Pre -Law area)
One AUM requires 810 lbs. of forage
1,172 lbs /acre (x) 271 acres = 317,612 lbs. of total forage produced
810 lbs. of forage (x) 128 AUM's = 103,680 lbs. of forage required;
Therefore,
103,680 (/) 317,612 (x) 100 = 32.6% utilization of the total Seneca II reclaimed area
2
