activity directed towards areas of hound's tongue and whitetop. Control areas were sprayed
in May, august and September. A spot spray gun was used to concentrate control activities
on target areas, reducing potential impacts to adjacent desirable vegetation. The herbicide
mix, based on recommendations from the Colorado State Extension Service, was mixed and
applied by a certified commercial applicator. The weed control areas will continue to be
monitored in 2013 for effectiveness and necessary retreatment. See attached 2013 Weed
Control (daily) Logs for a detailed description and location of the 2013 herbicide application.
• Grazing
Sheep (700 ewes) were moved on to the Yoast reclaim area for 30 days between Sept. 1"' and
September 30th . This grazing scheme resulted in a total of 140 AUMs for 2013.
Assumptions:
Five (5) sheep = 1.0 AUM
One (1) ZUNI requires 810 lbs. of forage
30 days (x) 700/5 animal units = 4200 animal days - 30 days = 140 animal unit months
(SUM)
1100 lbs /acre (x) 798 acres = 877,800 lbs of forage available
810 lbs (x) 140 AUMs = 113,400 lbs of forage required
Therefore;
113400 - 877800 (x) 100 = 13.0 % utilization of the Yoast reclaimed area.
SEDIMENTATION POND SURVEYS
SCC is required by Permit C -82 -057 to monitor sedimentation ponds for sediment storage
capacities. In accordance with Rule 4.05.6(11)(c), SCC visually inspects each pond a
minimum of quarterly each year. During these inspections, any drastic change in
sedimentation storage or sudden increase in a sediment delta at the inlet to the pond could be
detected which would require mitigation.
Based on the 2013 survey, all sediment ponds have sufficient sediment storage. additionally,
all ponds have been discharging in compliance with the approved NPDES permit effluent
limitations. Yearly sediment delivery estimates to the ponds are considerably less than
originally calculated, since significant portions of these watersheds have now been
revegetated. The results of the annual survey are shown on Table 13.3, Sediment Pond
Capacities.
5
