Topsoil Replacement Thickness. The topsoil balance as of December 31, 2013 for the
remaining life -of -mine is calculated as follows:
Mine area
Total disturbance area
Permanent Facilities & Topsoil replaced
Disturbance area requiring soil
Soil in stockpiles (Table 13.1)
Mean replacement depth available
= 848.6 acres
= 840.4 acres
= 8.2 acres
= 36.7 acre -feet
4.5 feet (54 inches)
By dividing the topsoil available by the area requiring topsoil replacement, we arrive at the
future topsoil balance thickness of approximately 4.5 feet for the remaining disturbance area.
This generalized topsoil balance does not account for any area variations or for permanent
facilities not requiring topsoil; it is strictly an area -wide average. The area for placing this
topsoil is the mine entrance road provided the road will be totally reclaimed.
During 2007, topsoil thickness sampling was conducted over the top soiled area on a 500 ft.
grid. Refer to Yoast Mine annual Reclamation Report for 2007. The overall average topsoil
replaced depth for the areas reclaimed to date is 21.4 inches. The 21.4 inches is right in line
with the pre- mining projections of 21.6 inches.
REVEGETATION
• Seeding and Shrub Planting
Seeding: The area of Pond 12 slide, 3.4 acres, was re- seeded in 2013. Approximately 5.0
acres at topsoil stockpile L were permanently seeded in 2013.
Shrub Planting: Shrubs and trees planted in 2013, in the vicinity of pond 12 and 12 A.
Silver Sage 560
Box Elder 1280
Narrowleaf Cottonwood 1510
Willow. sn 770
Total 4120
• Monitoring
Chenoweth and Assoiciates, Inc conducted revegetation monitoring of permanently
revegetated areas during the summer of 2013. The 2013 annual Revegetation Monitoring
report will be submitted under separate cover.
• Weed Control
Survey for noxious weeds was carried out on the Yoast Mine permit area in 2013. Monitoring
was conducted in 2013 to determine the need or level of retreatment necessary for areas
sprayed in 2012. Canada thistle was the primary target species in all control areas, with lesser
4
