Timothy A. Cazier, P.E.
February 24, 2014
Page 4
9) Figure 5 / Exhibit C -8. Comment: There are four wells (Saldana, Linsenmann, Gale,
and MW- 130bs) shown on Figure 2 for which no data is presented on Figure 5. Please
provide this data or explain why well data for these wells is not shown.
a. Response: As discussed in an earlier response, the "Gale" well and the "Grubb"
well are the same, therefore location and water level data has been provided for
this well. Water level data for MW -13obs and the Linsenmann well were
accidentally left out of the graph and are now provided in the revised Figure 5
included. Water level data has not been gathered for the Saldana well because
this property is on an alternative supply (cistern and hauled water). In general,
water level data collected in nearby residential wells are for the purpose of
identifying water level declines in specific wells and are selected based on their
representation of geographical areas, and mitigating potential water supply
impacts before they occur. Once a well user is supplied with an alternative water
supply (ex. cistern and /or hauled water), water level data in that well is no longer
gathered or are measured less frequently. When ground water levels begin
returning to normal, Transit Mix plans to restart measuring water levels in the
impacted residential wells in order to determine when residential wells are no
longer being impacted by the dewatering operations. It should be noted that as
part of a ground water monitoring program implemented at the Pueblo East Pit,
Transit Mix has several dedicated monitoring wells and other selected residential
wells from which they continuously gather water level information to understand
the regional changes that occur to the ground water system as the result of mining
activities.
10) Comment: The symbology selected to present water levels for the Grubb, Frazier, and
Arrow Electric wells are indistinguishable from each other. Data from two of these wells
is short term in nature (April 2013 to June 2013 and August 2013 to October 2013).
Please discuss the reason for the limited data.
Response :. The symbology for Figure 5 has been updated for the three wells. As
discussed in Comment 4a, water level data for nearby residential wells are
generally gathered for the purpose of identifying water level declines and
mitigating potential water supply impacts before they occur. Once a well user is
provided an alternative water supply, ground water level data is no longer
gathered in the well. When ground water levels begin returning to normal,
Transit Mix plans to restart measuring water levels in the impacted residential
wells in order to determine when residential wells are no longer being impacted.
11) Comment: Data from the Lopez well is also short term in nature (October 2013 to
November 2013). Please discuss the reason for the limited data.
a. Response: See response to Comment 4b.
www.bbawatcr.com e Bishop - Brogden Associates, Inc.
