Limited - Results Archaeological Survey Form (Page 6 of 8)
VII. FIELD METHODS (cont)
29. Describe Survey Method: The five drill locations were inventoried by an archaeologist walking a
spiraling transect, with the spacing of the spirals being no more than 20m (50ft) apart to a total
50m (150ft) radius from the center stakes. A total of 1.6 acres were inventoried for each drill
location. The 300 -ft long waterline /powerline segment was inventoried to a total corridor width of
200ft. Four transects were used to inspect this corridor; 1.4 acres were surveyed. A newly
constructed road lies within the corridor and special attention was given to the areas that
afforded a view of subsurface.
VIII. RESULTS
30. List IFs if applicable. Indicate IF locations on the map completed for Part III.
A. Smithsonian Number: Description:
31. Using your professional knowledge of the region, why are there none or very limited
cultural remains in the project area? Is there subsurface potential? Each of the six survey areas
are relatively small in size and there are many more desirable areas nearby (on ridge tops and
adjacent to larger drainages) that would lend themselves to usage by prehistoric and historic
peoples. The Twentymile Park area has been utilized in the past by prehistoric and historic
peoples, but in a very limited fashion near the current project area. There are areas of soil
deposition within the project, as evidenced in eroded areas and road cuts, but if significant
cultural material existed below the ground surface evidence of such would have likely been
apparent in the disturbed areas.
