February 24, 2014 C- 1981 - 038 /Bowie No. 1 Mine MLT
• It appeared that Sediment Ponds 1 thru 4 and the West Ridge Pond were dry.
The West Ridge Waste Pile and the Old Disposal Area both appeared to be well vegetated,
with no erosion or instability in evidence.
• Slopes were backfilled and graded in 2008 and 2009, and appear to be well vegetated and
stable. The East Mine was granted Phase I bond release in 2013 with approval of SL -4.
Timber Storage Area (ref. Permit Map 6A -5P)
• The Timber Storage Area was backfilled, graded, topsoiled and seeded in 2008 -2009, and
was included in the SL -4 bond release application.
• Reclamation included reconstruction of a segment of Stevens Creek.
• The slopes were snow - covered, which allowed a series of fresh tracks (likely deer and elk) to
be easily seen.
• The sediment pond was covered with snow.
West Mine (ref. Permit Map 8A -19)
• The West Mine was also snow - covered, as was the access road which will remain as a
permanent feature.
• Ponds W -1 and W -2 were filled with snow, although appeared to be otherwise dry.
• Game trails were visible in the snow, crossing the reclaimed slope.
• East Roatcap Creek is currently confined to a culvert pipe beneath the two ponds, which will
be removed in the future once Phase II bond release is achieved.
ENFORCEMENT ACTIONS /COMPLIANCE
No enforcement actions were initiated as a result of this inspection, nor are any pending.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 9
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 2 Page 3 of I I
