ameO
2.7 High Volume Solution Collection System
The High Volume Solution Collection System (HVSCS) is comprised of HVSCS piping, the
HVSCS riser piping and foundation, and the HVSCS sump. The HVSCS piping is presented
in IFC Drawings A400 and A410. The portion of the 2011 Phase 5 VLF OSA 2nd Portion
documented herein included installation only of HVSCS piping. As such, the HVSCS riser
system installed in the Pregnant Solution Storage Area (PSSA) is not discussed further in
this report.
Ames installed approximately 18,779 linear feet of 4 -inch diameter PCPE Tertiary HVSCS
pipe; 392 linear feet of 8 -inch diameter, 1,011 linear feet of 12 -inch diameter, and
2,371 linear feet of 16 -inch diameter PCPE Secondary HVSCS pipe to project specifications.
Ames began installing the PCPE HVSCS pipes in November 2010, and completed in August
2011. Pipe locations are shown on Record Drawing No. 5 of 5 in Appendix A. Ames
haunched pipes with DCF and kept pipes in place during DCF placement.
A network of 4 -inch Tertiary HVSCS pipes were installed at approximately 100 feet
on- center at a minimum 2 percent grade, draining to the larger secondary PCPE HVSCS
pipes. Four -inch Tertiary HVSCS pipe sections were connected to each other using
couplings, and were attached to the secondary HVSCS pipe using ties. Laborers haunched
pipes with DCF and kept pipes in place during DCF placement.
2.8 Drain Cover Fill
Ames began placing DCF in the 2011 Phase 5 VLF OSA 2nd Portion in November 2010 and
completed placement in August 2011. Ames processed DCF from November 2010 through
August 2011 by screening crushed Cresson Ore over a vibrating one and one -half inch (1.5-
inch) screen to remove oversize material from the borrow source. Ames placed
approximately 102,982 cubic yards of DCF in the 2011 Phase 5 VLF OSA 2nd Portion to
project specifications. DCF was placed in a minimum 2 -foot thick lift over the geomembrane
and in a 5 -foot thick lift where Caterpillar 735 and 740 haul trucks travelled over the
AMEC Earth & Environmental, Inc.
2000 S Colorado Blvd 2 -1000
Denver, CO 80222
Tel 303 - 935 -6505
Fax 303 - 935 -6575 www.amec com
12
