Vegetation Monitoring Report
Historically, Coors Energy Company has utilized Savage and Savage, Inc. for the annual
Vegetation Monitoring Report. During 2013, Savage and Savage, Inc. ceased operations without
notification to Coors Energy. Pest and Disease Inspections were completed for the 0 and 2nd
Quarter of 2013, but no other actions were completed. Coors Energy has inquired multiple
times with Savage & Savage, Inc. for additional information or clarification and to date no
response has been received. In 2014, Coors Energy will be utilizing a new firm for continuation
of the Pest and Disease Inspections as well as the Vegetation Monitoring Report. This has been
discussed with mine inspector Jared Ebert, who understands the lack of a Vegetation Monitoring
Report.
Fortunately, for 2013 no new areas were seeded, moved to either Phase 2 or 3, or reseeded.
Therefore, the monitoring report would have looked at land that is in similar condition to what
was found in 2012. The only significant vegetation activity that occurred in 2013 was
application of herbicide to control Bromus tectorum (cheatgrass). The herbicide application was
performed over a large area of the mine property to address current areas of cheatgrass and to
prevent the spread of it. 2013 was ideal conditions for the growth of cheatgrass and with the
proper application of herbicide Coors Energy feels that the growth & spreading potential has
been greatly reduced. Site conditions will be monitored in 2014 for new or expanding patches of
cheat grass.
Savage and Savage, Inc. did complete a Pest and Disease Inspection for both the first and second
quarter of 2013. They were completed on March 19 and June 27, respectively. Copies of these
inspections are attached for reference. Both inspections found conditions as would be expected
and no areas of concern or disease were reported.
As stated above, a complete Vegetation Monitoring Report will be completed in 2014, which
will cover the anticipated seeding of a large area onsite.
If specific questions about the lack of a report or if additional information is needed, please
contact Ben Moline, Manager of Water Resources & Environmental Compliance at 303 -927-
3680.
AHR -2013
