IV)VLF Geosynthetics
A) Geomembrane Installation
1) VLF
Geomembrane installation within the Phase 5 VLF continued performing deployment,
seaming, and repair /QC activities. Geomembrane installation was performed in the area shown
on Figure 3. Approximately 149,989 square feet of primary 100mil LLDPE was deployed
using a John Deere 200 excavator and a John Deere 544 front -end loader with spreader -bar
attachments. Subgrade was inspected and approved by AMEC and Lone Star representatives
prior to geomembrane deployment (see Figure 3). Approximately 8,433 linear feet of seam was
fusion welded using to two fusion welding machines. Nineteen destructive test samples were
marked during fusion seaming. All destructive tests performed were within project
specifications. Non - destructive testing was performed for fusion welded seams. Repairs were
performed using the extrusion welding method for all marked defects. Vacuum testing was
performed for all extrusion welded seams and repairs.
Geomembrane installation and acceptance is complete for the Phase 5 PSSA.
B) Anchor Trench
1) VLF
Anchor trench excavation was performed between stations J0 +00 ( + / -) and J3 +00 ( + / -) and
between stations A48 +00 ( + / -) and A53 +00 ( + / -) using a CAT 312 excavator and laborers. An
AMEC representative observed and inspected the anchor trench excavation. The trench was
found to be constructed in accordance with design drawings and project specifications.
Anchor trench backfill was performed between stations C4 +00 ( + / -) and C4 +50 ( + / -) using a
John Deere 35D excavator, a jumping jack compactor, and laborers. An AMEC representative
observed and inspected the anchor trench backfill. The trench was found to be backfilled in
accordance with design drawings and project specifications.
C) Geomembrane Acceptance
1) VLF
Primary 100mil geomembrane (P -290 thru P -313, P -416 thru P -495, P -523, P -537 thru P -577,
and P -580 thru P -696) shown on Figures 4a and 4b were inspected by AMEC and Lonestar
representatives and found to be installed within project specifications and acceptable for
continued construction activities.
D) Geomembrane Delivery
1) VLF
Three loads of LLDPE geomembrane rolls were delivered to site during the week. The loads
were delivered on flat bed trucks in good condition (7 rolls of 80mil single sided textured and
28 rolls of 100mil smooth). The rolls were unloaded using a CAT 950 front -end loader with
forks attached. The geomembrane was placed on three pieces of HDPE pipe, stacked two rolls
high. An AMEC field representative inventoried the geomembrane and was present at all times
during unloading of the geomembrane.
