Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company
Cresson Project ameO
Quality Assurance Monitoring and Test Results
Load Out Bin Relocation
July 7, 2009
4.0 EARTHWORK CQA TESTING AND MONITORING
The following sections summarize results of the earthwork CQA testing and monitoring
performed by AMEC for the LOB relocation.
AMEC conducted CQA testing of earth materials used for construction. Table 4 presents
specified and observed CQA testing frequencies. Figure 1 shows the site plan and coordinate
system used to locate tests.
In accordance with the AMEC CQA Plan, when a AMEC monitor observed deficiencies, the
monitor determined the nature and extent of the problem and notified Ames and /or CC &V.
When unsatisfactory test results identified a deficiency, AMEC performed additional tests to
define the extent of the deficient area. Ames corrected deficiencies to meet the requirements of
the specifications, and AMEC retested and /or approved the corrected deficiency prior to any
additional related work. The following sections include discussions of the deficiencies
encountered.
4.1 Results of Laboratory Soils Testing
AMEC had laboratory testing of soils performed during all aspects of the LOB construction.
Knight Piesold's soils laboratory in Denver, Colorado performed permeability testing of the SLF
material. All other testing was performed on -site. To verify that the earth materials used during
construction met project specifications, AMEC completed the following tests in accordance with
the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM):
■ Rock corrected density values (ASTM D4718);
■ Grain size distribution (ASTM D1140 for material finer than the No. 200 sieve, and
ASTM C117 and C136 for coarse material);
■ Moisture content (ASTM D2216);
■ Atterberg limits (ASTM D4318);
■ Standard Proctor compaction (ASTM D698);
■ Permeability (ASTM D5084, Method D);
■ In -place density testing (ASTM D2922); and
■ Soil description (ASTM D2488)
SAPROJECTS \1125E CCV CQXH3 - CONSTRUCTION \LOB CERT REPORT\REPORT BODY\LOB CERT REPORT 2009.07.01.DOC 10
