a_ mec
and K6+00 ( + / -), approximately 100 to 300 feet right of centerline. Slope contouring was
performed using various CAT dozers and various CAT excavators. Material generated as the
cut progressed was pushed down the slope.
D) Overburden to Stockpile
1) VLF
No work performed during the week.
E) Cut to Fill
1) VLF
A CAT 385 excavator was used to excavate structural fill material from between stations
E 14 +00 ( + / -) and E 16 +50 ( + / -), approximately 75 to 100 feet left of centerline; and K0 +00
( + / -) and K5+00 ( + / -), approximately 0 to 50 right of centerline. The structural fill material was
loaded into CAT 777 haul trucks and hauled to fill areas.
Structural fill was placed between stations C0 +00 ( + / -) and C7 +00 ( + / -), approximately 60 feet
left of centerline to 60 feet right of centerline and between stations K0 +00 ( + / -) and K5 +00
( + / -), approximately 0 to 50 feet right of centerline. Structural fill was placed in 18" to 24" lifts
using various CAT dozers. Each lift was moisture conditioned using a CAT 773 water truck
(when necessary) and compacted using a 10 -ton vibratory smooth drum compactor, passing
over the entire fill surface at least 4 times (method compaction technique was applicable).
Ambient temperatures were monitored and fill placement was not performed during ambient
temperatures below 32 °F.
Blast pattern drilling was performed between stations E 10 +50 ( + / -) and E 17 +00 ( + / -),
approximately 20 to 150 feet right of centerline. Blasting was performed on Monday
(5/10/2010), Wednesday (5/12/2010), Thursday (5/13/2010), and Saturday 5/15 /2010. No
blasting was performed Tuesday (5/11/2010) and Friday (5/15/2010).
F) Soil Liner Fill
1) VLF
Soil liner fill (SLF) placement began between stations B0 +50 ( + / -) and B7 +50 ( + / -),
approximately 0 to 550 feet right of centerline, hauling from the East Cresson Clay borrow.
Subgrade was approved and moisturized prior to placement. The area included in placement is
shown in Attachment C. Placement was performed using a John Deere 729 dozer, two CAT
D -6 dozers, and a CAT skid steer loader in a one -foot three -inch ( + / -) loose lift. Moisture
conditioning of subgrade prior to placement and of SLF was performed using a tandem -axel
water truck. Compaction of the material was not performed during the week. Moisture content
and placement of the material was observed by an AMEC field representative. Ames was
informed of current moisture contents and the importance of maintaining the moisture in the
SLF. Ames stated they would keep the moisture in the SLF until geomembrane is deployed.
No SLF material was placed during ambient temperatures below 32 °F.
VLF Weekly Report WE 05.15.10.D
