October 2001 -29- 003-2182.004
destructive testing of repairs, including the approximate location of each repair is presented in
Appendix J-7a and J-7b.
6.1.5 Destructive Testing
Golder selected destructive test locations based on Poly-Flex's completion of approximately
500 lineal feet of welding, various working conditions, and on seaming observations (e.g.,
suspicion of a defective weld). Poly-Flex obtained and tested 25 original fusion seam
destructive samples and one extrusion seam destructive samples for the lower geomembrane
layer during the installation of the geomembrane in the External Pond. All original
destructive samples for the lower geomembrane layer passed testing in accordance with the
specifications. For the upper layer of geomembrane, Poly-Flex obtained and tested twenty-
seven original fusion seam destructive samples and one extrusion seam destructive sample.
One original fusion seam sample (DFU-3) failed testing. The failing sample was bounded in
accordance with the specifications and the bounded portion of the failing seam was capped.
Poly-Flex constructed approximately 9,041 lineal feet of fusion welded seams, and 19 lineal
feet of extrusion welded seams for the lower geomembrane layer. The specified frequency of
destructive testing was one test per 500 lineal feet of weld. Golder identified and Poly-Flex
obtained destructive samples from the geomembrane panel seams at a frequency of one
destructive test sample per 362 lineal feet of fusion welded seams, and one per 19 lineal feet of
extrusion welded seams.
Poly-Flex constructed approximately 9,379 lineal feet of fusion welded seams, and 93 lineal
feet of extrusion welded seams for the upper geomembrane layer. The specified frequency of
destructive testing was one test per 500 lineal feet of weld. Golder identified and Poly-Flex
obtained destructive samples from the geomembrane panel seams at a frequency of one
destructive test sample per 347 lineal feet of fusion welded seams, and one per 93 lineal feet of
extrusion welded seams.
I\00\2182\EMMALPOND"TTINALDOC Golder Associates
