Sec 30: NE' /a, E' /2NW' /a, W' /2NW' /a (lots 1 & 2), N' /2S' /z
The Coal Basin Mine is a formerly permitted mining operation. The operator of the mine, Mid -
Continent Resources declared bankruptcy in 1992. Subsequently, the Colorado Mined Land
Reclamation Board revoked the operating permit, and forfeited the reclamation bond in 1993. As
provided for in Colorado Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act, the Division assumed the
task of accomplishing reclamation of the site between 1994 and 2001. The entire amount of
forfeited reclamation bond has been used for reclamation of the site. No surplus money is
available for return to the former permittee, and the former permittee is not due any monetary
consideration as a result of this Termination of Jurisdiction process.
The permit area consists of 10,981 acres of which about 310 were disturbed and reclaimed by
mining activities. Termination of jurisdiction is proposed for the entire 10,981 acres. The surface
is owned by the U.S. Forest Service and coal mined within the permit boundary was under both
private and federal ownership.
Written comments, objections and requests for an informal conference or a formal public hearing
before the Mined Land Reclamation Board may be submitted to the Colorado Division of
Reclamation, Mining and Safety, 1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, CO 80203 within 30
days of the last publication of this notice.
