Natural Soda, Inc. 2013 Project Status Report & Annual Plan of Development
6.5 Raptor Survey
In 2011 NSI conducted raptor breeding activity inventories in pinion - juniper habitat that
was near the planned well field development in 2011 and 2012. A report was written
and submitted to the BLM following completion of the survey. No raptor survey was
required for 2013 operations. Raptor surveys will be conducted in 2014 per BLM
specifications for planned well field activity. If raptor nesting activity is found,
emergency or remedial mitigation would be implemented as directed by the BLM and
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The intent of the raptor studies will be to identify raptor
breeding areas /nests prior to well field development. As a result of the raptor studies,
mitigation or modification of drilling activity can be developed prior to disturbance.
6.6 Other Observations
Elk, deer, coyotes, rabbits and fox were noted in and around the well -field throughout
the year.
6.7 Waste Disposal
Common domestic solid waste was collected in containers and periodically transported to
the Rio Blanco County landfill. Sewage from the plant was directed to a septic system with
drain field. Process water, including plant wash down and precipitation runoff, was
directed to the process pond. A pump in the process pond allows NSI to recycle the water
to the barren system. The wastewater pond stores water from the cooling tower blow
down, water softener brine and blow down from the boilers Table 9 below shows
hazardous waste that was generated and collected at the NSI facilities. Hazardous waste
was collected, contained safely, stored separately from normal waste, and then disposed
of properly by a certified hazardous waste company.
Table 9: Hazardous Waste Disposal
Date
Quantity
Size of
Contents
EPA Waste
Shipped
Container
Code
1/17/2013
1
85 Ibs
USP Test Waste
D002
1/17/2013
1
65 Ibs
USP Test Waste
D002
1/17/2013
1
5 lbs
Mercury Thermometer
D009
1/17/2013
1
2 Ibs
Compressed Calibration
Nitro en Gas
1/17/2013
1
250 Ibs
Chloride Test Waste
D007, D008,
D01
1/17/2013
1
25 Ibs
Universal Waste - -Light Bulbs (Mercury)
1/17/2013
1
30 Ibs
Universal Waste - -Light Bulbs (non -
re ulated)
6/27/2013
1
511 Ibs
Chloride Test Waste
D007, D008,
D011
Reported from Natural Soda by Michael Clark 1/21/2014
' DAUB & ASSOCIATES, INC. , ,. 23 January 2014
