This letter and attached map, "Illustration 1, Corley Company Well, No. 119459
Location Map" (Illustration 1), addresses Item No. 10 as listed in the Division's original review
letter dated February 20, 2013. Item No. 10 pertains to the Corley Company Well No. 119459
located on the Corley Ranch property.
Via email dated 12 -18 -2013, Dr. Corley supplied the location coordinates for Well
No. 119459. EFCI computer plotted the coordinates (I 2727.2N and 9555.4E, applicable to the
Southfield mapping system) on the certified Southfield Mine Permanent Closure Map, Sheet 1,
dated 09 -18 -2001. Based on the coordinates, a zoom view of the area around Well 119459 and
related Southfield mine workings in that area is shown on the computer generated map
referenced above, "Illustration 1, Corley Company Well No. 119459 Location Map ".
In Dr. Corley's email to David Berry and George Patterson dated 12- 17 -13, Corley
assumes that Well 119459 has subsided as compared to the subsidence survey point, Monument
"I ". In Dr. Corley's email of 12 -7 -12 to Janet Binns, he states Corley experienced decreased flow
in Well 119459 in 1991.
Illustration 1 depicts Well 119459 and the subsidence survey point, Monument "I ",
being over Panel D East in the 2 North Mine Section. The date at the face (panel development)
of Panel D East is 6- 11 -93. Accordingly, Panel D East did not exist in 1991 when Well 119459
was experiencing decreased flow as reported by Dr. Corley.
Panel C East, which is located to the west of Well 119459, shows a face date of 10 -17 -92
which is the development phase during which subsidence at the surface is not expected to occur.
Pillaring (retreat mining) of Panel C East would not have occurred until well into 1993. Note
also that Well 119459 is situate over the mine barrier between the above referenced panels as
well as being over the extension of the same barrier extending to the south between two rooms
on the north side of Panel D East. Subsidence is not expected to occur over mine barriers.
