M. Savage
C- 1992 -080 2012 ARR Review
Acres Seeded
30 -Jan-2014
Cumulative Total: This value is the sum of those areas seeded for 10 years or less and those
seeded for more than 10 years (see the following categories). The 41.93 acres reported for 2012
should be replaced with 52.99 acres (36.43 + 16.56).
10 Years or Less: In 2006, 25.67 acres were seeded, and 8.56 acres were seeded in 2009.
Repairs to the Carbon Junction channel in 2013 resulted in another 2.20 acres being seeded, for a
total of 36.43 acres (rather than the 41.93 reported in 2012.)
Greater than 10 Years: According to the 1992 ARR, all of the topsoil stockpiles were
revegetated for temporary cover to prevent erosion. Topsoil stockpiles 44 and #7, with a
combined acreage of 8.86 acres, would have been seeded at that time. (There is no record of the
piles having been re- seeded at some later date.) The 2000 ARR indicates that 7.70 acres of the
PRSA were hydro - mulched and seeded that year. The 2012 ARR says that 0.0 acres have been
seeded for more than 10 years; it appears that this value should be revised to 16.56 acres (8.86 +
7.70) for future flings.
For the Entire Life of Mine
Total Number of Acres Disturbed: For 2012, 59.00 acres was reported for this category. As
noted above, the current disturbed area is 61.83 acres. Disturbed areas were removed from the
permit on two previous occasions: -1.0 acres under SL -01 in 1997 and 14.31 acres in 2005
with SL -02 (absorbed by the Ewing Mesa gravel pit). The total disturbed area for the life of
mine is the sum of these three areas, 77.14 acres.
Phase I Released: SL -01 released 1.0 acres; SL -02 released 14.31 acres, SL -03 (in 2008)
released 32.59 acres; and in 2011, 27.04 acres were released under SL -04, for a total of 74.94
acres released (rather than the 47.69 reported in 2012). The remaining area for which no
application for Phase I bond release has been received is 2.20 acres in the Upper Carbon Junction
channel, reclaimed in 2013.
Phase II Released: SL -01 released 1.0 acres; SL -02 released 14.31 acres; and SL -04 released
59.63 acres, for a total of 74.94 acres (rather than the 47.69 reported in 2012). The remaining
area for which no application for Phase II bond release has been received is 2.20 acres in the
Upper Carbon Junction channel, reclaimed in 2013.
Phase III Released: The SL -01 and SL -02 bond releases resulted in full release of 15.31 acres
(1.0 + 14.31). (The ARR for 2012 reported 17.69 acres for this category.)
For Mines in Permanent Cessation
Facilities Not Yet Reclaimed: In the Division's knowledge, there are no facilities that remain to
be reclaimed; this acreage, reported as 0.00, is accurate.
