Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company
Laboratory Liner Extension
Final Report ameO
Quality Assurance Monitoring &Test Results
January 14, 2014
the average of the thickness measurements be no less than the 80 mils, and that no
individual measurement be less than 72 mils. The thickness monitoring provided by
AMEC indicated that all of the panels met or exceeded project requirements.
AMEC personnel measured deployed panel lengths using a measuring wheel.
Recorded lengths are approximate, and do not reflect any trimming or adjustments
made for final placement.
AMEC personnel observed the surface of each deployed panel. Any penetration
defects were logged and marked on the panel. Section 5.2.5 provides further
discussion of repairs. Sufficient overlap of each panel with adjacent panels for
seaming was confirmed. No locations of insufficient overlap were observed during the
installation of the geomembrane liner.
5.2.3 Seaming
Extrusion welding was the only seaming method employed by Lone Star for this
project. The geomembrane was seamed (welded) on the same day it was deployed.
Lone Star did not perform any fusion welds during the Laboratory Liner Extension
project.
Trial Seam Monitoring
Lone Star performed trial seams to monitor the performance of the seaming apparatus
and operator under actual site conditions. Each welding operator and his apparatus
produced trial seams prior to the beginning of each day's seaming operation and in the
event that devices were disconnected from power and re- energized.
Lone Star cut 1- inch -wide samples (coupons) from each trial seam and tested the
coupons with a field tensiometer. Lone Star tested each extrusion trial seam twice for
peel adhesion (peel) and once for bonded seam strength (shear).
AMEC personnel observed the testing of trial seam samples and documented test
results. The tensile testing of each trial seam coupon verified that project specification
were met and failure did not occur in the weld. When trial seams did not meet
specifications, AMEC verified the welding apparatus was not used until two
consecutive trial seams performed by the same technician and apparatus met
specifications. The trial seam test results are presented in Appendix H.2. Lone Star
used one tensiometer and retained a spare tensiometer during the project. Figure 3
shows the codes used to designate passing and failing test results.
5.2.4 Seaming Observations
AMEC personnel observed seams before, during, and after welding. Each seam was
checked for adequate overlap prior to seaming and verified the seam area was clean
and dry.
sAprojects \1125m -cc &v lab liner extension\h2 - design \lab liner extension \roc report\lab liner roc report.docx 11
