January 14, 2014
e) Location of areas seeded in 2012: No seeding occurred in 2012. Spot rill & gully repairs
were conducted.
Seed mixes used: A copy of the seed mix certification was included in the report.
# Acres seeded:
No shrub transplants occurred in 2012.
Augmentation: NA
Weed control: SCC conducted a survey for Noxious weeds on the permit area in 2012. Canada
thistle (Cirsium arvense) was the primary species targeted for control, along with lesser
concentrations of Houndstongue (Cynoglossom officianale) and Whitetop (Cardaria draba).
SCC did not provide information regarding which herbicide was utilized, although they stated
that SCC followed recommendations by Colorado State Extension Service. Weeds were spot
sprayed. SCC stated that areas of control will be monitored to assess the effectiveness of the
weed control efforts. SCC provided a 2012 Annual Reclamation Report map showing locations
and species of noxious weeds identified for control. This map is acceptable and complies with
monitoring and reporting commitment of HGT's weed control plan. Weed control logs with date
of spraying, chemical used and concentration of chemical solution used in the spot sprayer was
included as well.
The reclaimed areas were grazed in 2012. 620 sheep (ewes) on the reclaimed areas for 30 days
between 9/8/2012 and 10/19/2012. Tab 22 does not appear to describe an approved grazing plan.
The stocking rate used by SCC appears well below a value that would negatively impact the
reclaimed areas.
f) Location, number of acres, and date of planting of all previously vegetated areas:
SCC includes: "2012 Annual Reclamation Chronological Seeding" Map in the ARR that includes
the required information.
2. Additional information as required by the Division:
SCC provides quarterly sediment pond surveys. Based upon the 2012 surveys, no sediment ponds
require immediate sediment clean out.
No new stocktanks were constructed in 2012.]
SCC also provided a map, "2012 Rill and Gully Map" showing the location of rill and guly repairs.
Sincerely,
Janet H. Binns
Environmental Protection Specialist III
(303) 866 -3567 ext. 8107
