COMMENTS
An aerial inspection of the Carbon Junction Mine was conducted by Division personnel in
December, 2013. Photographs were taken by Harry Ranney on Wednesday, December 18, and
were later analyzed and anotated by Marcia Talvitie.
Skies were overcast, and the ground surface was partially covered with snow. The inspection
focused on the Carbon Junction drainage, including the repair and reestablishment work
accomplished in November 2013 in the Upper Carbon Junction Channel.
The mine was granted Phase II bond release in 2011 under SL-04.
PERMITTING UPDATE:
TR-17: The Diviison formally issued this revision on 12-Nov-2013, and work on the Upper
Carbon Junction Channel commenced the same day.
RN-04: The Division issued a second adequacy review letter on 18-Dec-2013. The decision
date has been extended to 20-Jan-2014.
EXCESS SPOIL and DEVELOPMENT WASTE—Rule 4.09
Placement; Drainage Control; Surface Stabilization:
• Permanent disposal of excess spoil within the original Carbon Junction Canyon has been
approved. The Previously Reclaimed Spoils Area (PRSA) appeared to be well vegetated and
stable with respect to erosion.
