the EPA standard would be 10 mg /1. The maximum
manganese value observed at any surface site was .88 mg /1.
9. Instream Numeric
CWQCC regulation 33.0
Ten monitoring sites exist within the Sage and Grassy Creek
Standards
Basins: YSSF3, NPDES 12, NPDES 13, NPDES 14, and YSS2 are
on Sage Creek. NPDES 10, NPDES 11, YSGF5, and YSG5 are on
Grassy Creek. The receiving stream standards for both Sage
Creek and Grassy Creek is on Segment 13e of the Yampa River
basin. The stream standards for Sage Creek and Grassy Creek
are based on aquatic life standards. Table 14 of the 2012
AHR provides a comparision of the standards to water quality
collectedfrom NPDES points and stream sites in the Sage and
Grassy Creek Basins. The total recoverable iron standard (1.0
mg /1) was exceeded five times at four sites, with no NPDES
exceedances for iron occurring during the 2012 water year.
The pH standard of 6.5 -9.0 was exceeded in July at NPDESI3
(9.07 pH). Nitrite standard (0.05 mg /1) was exceeded at YSS2
(0.06). The chronic selenium standard of 4.6 ug /I was
exceeded twice at NPDESI3 (5.4 and 8.4) and once at
NPDES12 (5.2).
10. Interim Narrative
CWQCC regulation
It was determined that bed rock groundwater points of
Standard for Ground Water
41.5.C.6
compliance are unwarranted at the Yoast Mine. Well SGAL70
serves as the Yoast Mine's Grassy Creek Alluvial ground water
point of compliance and well YSAL3 serves as the alluvial
ground water point of compliance for Sage Creek. Ambient
values for this site were below the Reg. 41 standards during
the 2012 water year.
11. Sampling frequency at
Tab 15, Table 15 -9 of
The report indicates that all frequencies were met.
surface water
CDRMS mining permit C-
1992 -084
12. Parameters to be
Tab 15, Table 15 -4 and
Parameters to be sampled are conductivity (umhos /cm), pH
sampled at surface water
15 -5 of CDRMS mining
(units), temperature (C), total recoverable iron (mg /1),
sites
permit C- 1992 -084
dissolved manganese (mg /1), total mercury (ug /1), dissolved
nitrate (mg /1), dissolved nitrite (mg /1), total ammonia (mg /1),
dissolved selenium (ug /1), dissolved sulfate (mg /1), total
sulfide (mg /1), total suspended solids (mg /1) and total
dissolved solids (mg /1). All required parameters were
analyzed. All parameters were met.
13. Filing frequency of pond
CDRMS regulation
Pond 008 remains as the only sediment pond associated with
reports
4.05.9(17)
C- 1980 -005. Quarterly pond inspections were conducted
within the appropriate quarter.
14. Timely filing of pond
CDRMS regulation
Quarterly pond inspection reports were submitted and
reports
4.05.9(17)
received by the Division within an appropriate timeframe.
15. Content of pond reports
CDRMS regulation
All required information was addressed on quarterly
4.05.9(15)
sediment pond inspection in water year 2012.
