The Q's, i.e. required design flow rate to detemtine the carrying capacity of each
culvert, were taken from Table U(10 -1). Headwater depth was restricted to not more than the
depth or diameter of the culvert. Lengths for the culverts were determined from the topographic
data collected by SMA. Velocities of between 2.5 fps and 3.5 fps were targeted to be
maintained to ensure that the culvert would be self - cleaning. Presented below in Table U(10 -2)-
Culvert Requirements Resulting from 100 - year /24 -Hr Rainfall Event for Entrance Road, are the
culvert sizes required to convey water under the roadway at the locations identified on the
plans. The analytical parameters and the results of the calculations are presented in Table U
(10- 2)- Culvert Sizing from 100 - Year /24 -Hour Rainfall Event.
Table U(10 -2)
Culvert Requirements Resulting from
100- Year /24 -Hour° Rainfall Event
For Entrance Road
Culvert
No.
Basin #
Contributing
Flow y
Design
Q, cfs
Slope of
Culvert,%
Flow
Velocity,
s
Calculated
Culvert
Size, In
Recommended
Culvert Size, In
Recommended
Culvert
Capacity, cfs
1
3
3.70
2.86
3.52
15
15
5.51
2
5
2.00
2.86
4.50
12
15
2.27
3
6
0.70
2.20
1.79
12
15
2.27
4
8
0.90
2.20
2.29
12
15
2.27
5
11
1.60
0.83
3.72
12
15
2.31
6
12
0.4.0
0.80
1.02
12
15
2.30
Liberty Mining, LLC (Moab, Utah SMA Ref. 5621897 Page 62
